Uber collaborates with a number of EV manufacturers to quicken the transition to sustainable mobility

Uber-like application In an effort to hasten its partners' transition to sustainable transportation, Uber on Wednesday announced agreements with several electric car manufacturers and other organisations in India.

In order to put 25,000 electric vehicles in India on the Uber platform over the next two years, the firm says it has extended its cooperation with EV fleet partners Lithium Urban Technologies, Everest Fleet Pvt Ltd, and Moove.

Additionally, Uber said that it would work with Zypp Electric to deploy 10,000 electric two-wheelers in Delhi by 2024.

The business also disclosed a collaboration with SIDBI to make Rs 1,000 crore in EV financing available.

Through Jio-bp, Uber said it would also bring its international collaboration with BP to India. Additionally, it has partnered with GMR Green Energy to provide rapid charging for Uber EVs.

The San Francisco-based company also announced the launch of Uber Green in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, beginning in June, as part of its environmental initiative.

With the Uber Green programme, customers may choose an all-electric, zero-emission vehicle instead of a typical fossil-fueled vehicle.

Uber Green, which is present in more than 100 locations across 15 countries, is the most commonly used on-demand mobility solution in the world for zero- or low-emission trips.

According to Andrew Macdonald, senior vice president of mobility and business operations at Uber, “India's enormous scale and electrification momentum makes the country a priority for Uber as we seek to meet our commitment to electrify every ride on our platform by 2040.”

With the release of Uber Green, the firm is making a significant advancement towards that objective, he said.

“We are aware that our influence transcends technology. We are dedicated to support cities and governments in their efforts to reduce pollution and battle climate change via sustainable transportation, said Macdonald.

He pointed out that India is a crucial market for Uber, where there are now around 8 lakh active partners and that number is rising significantly.

According to volume, India is the third-largest market for Uber, and Macdonald said the business will keep making investments there to support further expansion.

He said that 125 cities around the nation provide the ride-hailing service.

Uber is available in 10,000 cities and 70 countries across the world.

Going all electric is difficult, according to Uber India and South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh, and drivers shouldn't bear the financial burden of making the switch to EVs.

“With these market-leading partnerships, we are matching commitment with action to help drivers go electric faster and supercharge the sustainable transition in India's ride-sharing industry,” the speaker said.

Uber has promised to transition to a zero-emission transportation platform worldwide by 2040 and in Europe and North America by 2030.
In 2022, the firm will have more than quadrupled the number of electric vehicles available on its platform and will have given 31 million different passengers rides in electric cars.
