After the Italian GP, Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz Jr. was robbed and had his £500,000 watch stolen from near the Armani Hotel in Milan. With the aid of onlookers, Sainz, who came in third place behind Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez and Max Verstappen, was able to track down the thieves and reclaim his watch.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-160262″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-recent-photos-of-krithi-shetty-in-a-floral-dress-show-why-she-is-winning-peoples-h.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com recent photos of krithi shetty in a floral dress show why she is winning peoples h” width=”1442″ height=”811″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-recent-photos-of-krithi-shetty-in-a-floral-dress-show-why-she-is-winning-peoples-h.jpg 640w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-recent-photos-of-krithi-shetty-in-a-floral-dress-show-why-she-is-winning-peoples-h-390×220.jpg 390w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-recent-photos-of-krithi-shetty-in-a-floral-dress-show-why-she-is-winning-peoples-h-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1442px) 100vw, 1442px” title=”After the Italian GP, Carlos Sainz Jr. finds the stolen £500,000 watch 3″>

To get his watch back, Sainz pursued the two suspects, who were ultimately detained by police. This is not the first time a Fomral 1 racer has had their personal items stolen. Lando Norris’ $144,000 Richard Mille watch was stolen in 2021 when England and Italy were playing in the Eurofinal. But Norris never received his watch back.

Verstappen earlier in the day raced to his 10th consecutive Grand Prix victory in Monza, extending his enormous championship lead to 145 points. Verstappen had started second in the Ialina GP, behind Sainz.

At the Dutch GP last weekend, Verstappen equaled Sebastian Vettel’s F1 record of nine consecutive victories. Verstappen has won 12 of the 14 races for undefeated Red Bull. With 15 victories last year, he is very close to his personal F1 record of 47 victories total.

The other two triumphs this year have gone to Pérez, while Red Bull has also won 24 of the previous 25 races, including last year.

Sainz, who turned 29 on Friday, got off to a strong start as he held off Verstappen into the first curve, much to the joy of the crowds of fervent red-clad tifosi. Ferrari was hoping for its first victory in the Temple of Speed since 2019.

Verstappen made multiple efforts to pass Sainz during their heated duel, but Sainz was able to hold him off. That didn’t last long, however, as Sainz locked his brakes on lap 15 entering the first chicane, allowing Verstappen to pass him on the exit and take the lead.

The duel for second place between Sainz and Perez ended with four circuits remaining, and Sainz was then left to put up a valiant effort to hold off Leclerc for the last podium spot.
